Some time ago, Neal Morse announced his departure from one of the most admired prog bands, Spock's Beard, to devote himself fully to God. With Testimony, the singer is back, with a real album and what's more, double.

The regulars won't be suprised by the content of the record. We find in turn the grandiose, progressive, direct, intimate and sometimes surprising passages like in this country part where he shouts his love to God. As usual, the man gives himself all the necessary means to succeed: a Mike Portnoy (drums) always so flamboyant and inspired, a Kerry Livgren (Kansas) who knows how to stand out, and a whole range of instruments mostly played by the protagonist himself.

The album is divided into two parts: the first one relates the encounter with God and the second one, the continuity. Is it useful to point out that the emotions of darkness (before) and enlightenment at the encounter with "Jesus" are perfectly transcribed by the master of the genre. But whereas with Spock's Beard we could appreciate these very "pop" passages (see rock on Snow), in this solo album we rather marvel at these acoustic passages carried by Neal's sublime voice so rich in emotions.

To sum up, fans of the Neal Morse's touch, both in Spock's Beard and in Transatlantic, will love this album, and those who also like both these bands must absolutely throw an ear to it. While Spock's has moved into new territory with Euphoria, Neal Morse continues on the path laid out by Snow. After such a sad affair, in the end, everyone seems to have benefited.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With its personal, varied, dark and bewitching universe, "Superhero" is a must-have album that suffers from no flaws.
AYREON: The Final Experiment (1995)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - In "Final Experiment" Lucassen has found his own style, a rock/metal opera, as good as in some of its successors.
