With "The Seventh One", Toto closes the pop part of its existence. Following in the footsteps of "IV", this album reproduces the same recipes, with David Paich taking a slightly back seat, singing only on the last track.

The keyboards are always very present and well worked. The harmonic work is, for number 7, largely reinforced by the brass, a fairly marked trend at the time: 'Pamela' (a clone of 'Rosanna'), 'You Got Me', 'Straight For The Heart' and 'These Chains' are perfect examples. Keen to reproduce a second number 4, the band dresses 'Mushanga' in the same finery as 'Africa', namely warm synth sounds tinged with African overtones.

In the realm of tried-and-tested recipes, we're delighted to find Lukather's slow 'Anna', always topped with orchestral accompaniment designed to enhance the warmth, some lovely piano + percussion work to underpin the high-performance 'Stop Loving You', and even an excellent 'Home Of The Brave' with a little epic edge lost sight of since 'St George And The Dragon' in 'Hydra'.

Less effective and less balanced than "IV" - there's even a rather weak track, Only The Children -, "The Seventh One" nevertheless remains a brilliant testimony to Toto's excellent know-how in sophisticated pop. A highly recommendable album.

Je voulais mettre un commentaire mais finalement, après avoir lu ceux qui sont déjà là, inutile d'en rajouter, tout est dit et bien dit. Le meilleur TOTO, tout simplement.
