In order to celebrate their signature on Coroner and to remember their fans a few months before the release of their fourth album, the Italian band Disarmonia Mundi reissues their first album released in a rather confidential way. If such re-releases usually have the advantage of promoting on a larger scale a first album that had excited a fringe of fans looking for the slightest novelty, this one adds the considerable additional interest of being doubled with a 22 minutes EP composed of six tracks composed between 2002 and 2006.
In direct contact with the first remastered album, "The Restless Memoirs" is the testimony of the notable evolution that occurred between "Nebularium" and "Fragments Of D-Generation". Ettore Rigotti, the band's master of thought, even before hiring Bjorn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork), made Disarmonia Mundi's music go from a complex melodeath justifying the progressive label, to a melodic death music very typical of... Soilwork ! A change of course that the purists and fans of the first hour will regret but an evolution that will be confirmed, despite everything, on the relatively disappointing "Mind Tricks" with an originality inversely proportional to the expectations of the fans of the first hour.
Nevertheless, the 22 minutes of this "The Restless Memoirs" are worth the detour. This EP is a real summary of what the current melodeath scene can offer, that is to say pleasant but conventional tracks, and others particularly catchy with monumental melodic breaks. From the hyperactive introductive 'Across The Burning Surface' to the very conventional 'Ghost Song', "The Restless Memoirs" is especially worth a listen for the Dantesque 'Kneeling On Broken Glass' and 'Spiral Dancer' reminding the creative madness of "Nebularium".
In the end, it appears that accompanied by this EP, the listening of this remastered edition of "Nebularium" becomes quite essential for those who don't own the album in its initial version. - Official website
