"Very (too) close to Pink Floyd, "Identity" is slightly lacking in identity but this detail doesn't alter the pleasure we have in discovering such a successful first album!"

In order to better understand the compositions of Airbags, it is best to look at the history of the Norwegian combo. Originally, the band was conceived as a tribute band of the Pink Floyd, but over the years, the band alternated between Floydian cover tours and composition phases. These steps will be the origin of two very promising demos that will be put online for free on the band's website. The quality of these demos and the remarkable participation in the "Arnold Layne" competition were the source of a real buzz that allowed the band to record their first album.
Without suprise this "Identity" looks like... Pink Floyd. However, the experimental aspect is abandoned for a more pop side reminiscent of Radiohead, Pinapple Thief and sometimes Porcupine Tree. The relaxing keyboards respond to a soft and calm guitar and a melancholic and touching voice, creating light and very melodic atmospheres. From this relatively homogeneous ensemble stand out a few guitar flights that are easily assumed to be performed on pentatonic instruments by a soloist working on Stratocaster and imitating Grand Master Gilmour. Unfortunately, below that, the bass drum duo is satisfied with a linear and basic rhythmic.
People who have enjoyed the band's previous productions will probably be disappointed by the fact that the majority of the compositions were already present on both demos. However, the eight tracks of "Identity" are finely exploited and follow a coherent and fluid progression, and the album scrolls with a disconcerting ease of listening. But even though the compositions may be splendid and particularly pleasant, they won't really look any further. No innovative elements strike and the simplicity of the compositions sometimes gives a slight air of déjà vu. So yes, "Identity" is slightly lacking in identity, but let's be honest, this detail doesn't alter the pleasure we have in discovering such a successful first album! - Official website
