Abigail's Ghost is back in 2009 with her second album, entitled "D_Letion". The American band made its name in 2007 with its first opus, "Selling Insincerity", which was very close to Porcupine Tree, to such an extent that the band could have been renamed "Steven Wilson's Ghost"... The music was nevertheless of very good quality! The question is today very simple: has Abigail's Ghost managed to find his own style?
The Porcupine Tree influences, which went as far as copying Wilson's voice, have almost completely disappeared, revealing an original Progressive Rock with highly metallic tendencies. Even if some vocal lines or riffs still remind us of porcupine tree, "D_Letion" delivers an original record that manages to find a perfect balance between surprisingly soaring prog tracks and emotionally gripping guitar solos - "Sneak Peek" and its Floydian atmosphere with its remarkable solo, or the tender and twirling "Visceral" with its joyful and solemn vocals are striking examples - and others much heavier with great explosive riffs while enjoying the various melodies that enrich the band's music, making it unique. Let's mention in this genre the eponymous title "D_Letion" and its heavy riff contrasting with a melodious chorus or "Romantic Life'" with a riff reminiscent of PT's "Shallow" and the Trash metal interlude delivering a monstrous riff.
This almost perfect harmony between Rock and Metal Prog is at the heart of the music. Each musician ensures perfectly technical side, all this served by an impeccable production. There's no doubt that Abigail's Ghost, once mistaken for a Porcupine Tree ghost, has just forged its place on the Rock/Metal Prog scene with this delicious album. - Official website
