In November 2003, InsideOut spoils us with its superb limited edition DVD boxes. After Transatlantic, it's the Flower Kings' turn to offer us their show on the small screen as well as some additional bonuses.

Contrary to all expectations, the concert is not broadcast in its entirety but is interspersed with short reports at the end of each tracks (all lasting more than 25 minutes).  As far as the Flower Kings exhibition is concerned, don't expect an overheated room. The well-lit stage and very light lighting effects give a studio recording atmosphere more than a concert atmosphere. Each musician is in his place and apart from the singer Hans Froberg, they do not move. The only movement comes from the few hairy heads of the group.

The image is perfect and the shots are not surprising: wide angle, portraits, a few zooms on the hands. No monopolization of the image of a particular musician. The sound is also flawless. Quite often, an overlay of images is made while the band is playing and dancers or outdoor photos appear. If the purpose of these style effects is to titillate the imagination, I rather found it useless or even completely ridiculous. Presenting a field, a window or a fence in a country house is far from making me dream.

As for the reportages, they are not very good. The few words are not translated and I think that few people know Swedish. Backstages on European and American tours are of little interest. Watching the technicians set up the stage for 10 minutes or the group members filmed too close together or engaging in a kind of gestural humour that is difficult to understand is not really funny. As for the film on the studio recording, only the drummers and perhaps the bass players will be satisfied since these two instruments monopolize the attention.

Far from the pleasure and accessibility that the Transatlantic DVD could offer, this "Meet the Flower Kings" is only for die hard fans. A. I strongly advise against discovering their work using this object, you would not go beyond the first volume.

CONCEPTION: The Last Sunset (1993)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - First band of the guitarist Tore Ostby who left to found ARK afterwards, Conception offers from its first album a real masterpiece.
ALIAS EYE: A Different Point Of You (2003)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - If all the classic ingredients of neo-progressive rock are certainly present in Alias Eye, listening to this album leaves a "I don't know what" aftertaste that leads us to say that they have invented something new close to genius.
