"Containing the hit 'How You Remind Me' that propelled them to the top of the charts, "Silver Side Up" represents what Nickelback does best in the genre."

Nickelback entered Roadrunner the year before with their album "The State", and seemed to be on the way to discover the miracle recipe of Post Grunge: fat guitars, hoarse and raging vocals, rhythmics sweating Hard Groove and alternating verse/chorus in the form of immediate and heady anthems. After some trial and error, here is one of the most successful products of a style often criticized but nevertheless particularly enjoyable: "Silver Side Up".
If Nickelback's fame spread like wildfire thanks to the absolute single 'How You Remind Me?', it is indeed ten unavoidable hits that are gathered on "Silver Side Up", an album that suffers from little competition in its category. The sound is huge, heavy and clear, balanced and presenting a slight roughness, formerly unintentional, but which today is entirely at the service of the compositions. Chad's voice finally reaches the degree of maturity that we were hoping for, becoming roaring or revealing itself sensitive and bewitching as soon as it is about temporizing the ambient rage. Add to that a proven melodic sense and some soli whose almost primary simplicity has nothing to envy to their efficiency, you will then have in hand all the basic materials of this outstanding album.
On "Silver Side Up", the world of Nickelback is divided into three categories. First of all the absolute hits in permanent tension that are 'Never Again', 'Woke Up This Morning', 'Just For', 'Hollywood', 'Money Bought', 'Where Do I Hide' and 'Hangnail', the real false ballads that kill such as the unforgettable 'How You Remind Me?' or the devastating 'Too Bad' and to conclude, a special piece finely chiseled by very bluesy slides, the excellent 'Good Times Gone'.
Nickelback delivers us in this "Silver Side Up" a recital of what he knows how to do best. Some may complain about the relative linearity of the whole and especially the flagrant lack of technicality. Is it necessary to be an ace of the guitar to offer quality tracks? Not necessarily and Nickelback is simply the proof. - Official website
