""Screaming For Vengeance" relaunches the career of Judas Priest in the best way after a disappointing "Point Of Entry"."

Some years seem to be blessed by the Metal Gods. 1982 for example will see the release of Iron Maiden's "Number Of The Beast", Scorpions' "Blackout", Accept's "Restless & Wild", Kiss' "Creatures Of The Night", Motörhead's "Iron Fist", and... Judas Priest's "Screaming For Vengeance"! Concerning the latter, their previous album ("Point Of Entry") marked a real setback after the magnificent "British Steel". It was therefore imperative to set the record straight, and the metallic eagle melting on its prey that adorns the cover, announces the color. If Tom Allom is still producing and if the recording is done again at Ibiza Sound Studio, there is no question of going overboard which made its predecessor a rather average record.
And things are clear from the beginning of a thundering album where the titles follow one another frantically. After the grandiloquent intro represented by "The Hellion", the sequence "Electric Eye" - "Riding On The Wind" presents fast riffs, scathing soli, anthemic choruses and rhythmic surges. So much so that we find ourselves catching our breath on "Bloodstone", which nevertheless offers a crushing rhythmic and a repetitive and obsessive chorus.
Of course, we can always be picky on a weaker passage composed by a "(Take These) Chains" with a chorus a little silly despite the effectiveness of its mid-tempo, and a "Pain And Pleasure" rather heavy, but the rest will put everyone back on the right track. Indeed, on the eponymous track, Judas Priest spits again the flames with a fast riff and sharp guitars, a hyper aggressive chorus and a Rob Halford flying in the high notes. And the sequence is unstoppable with "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", a real melodic heavy metal anthem with a basic and repetitive riff but with a formidable efficiency. On "Fever", Judas Priest varies the tempos and the atmospheres to allow us to recover our spirits with a catchy chorus and this, before ending us with the Heavy Rock'n'Roll of a "Devil's Child" with syncopated verses and obsessing chorus.
"Screaming For Vengeance" thus relaunches the career of Judas Priest on the royal way which is its right. The Brits show an instrumental dexterity and a compositional genius that puts them above the fray, even if the competition becomes tough. - Official website
