""Thunderstruck" is an excellent neo progressive rock album and surely a good way to get to know Landmarq."

This first public record of Landmarq is a selection of tracks played during various European concerts dating from 98 and 99. Four of the eight tracks are from their last album at that time: Science of Coincidence.
The four remaining tracks are taken from the band's first three studio albums and those one may surprise the listener the most since they were originally sung by Damian Wilson and are interpreted there by Tracy Hitchings.

And the surprise is more than pleasant because from the first track, "Pinewood Avenue" taken from "The Vision Pit", the passage of the male voice to the female voice adds a new richness, all the more sensitive as the interpretation is more powerful than on the studio album. What is actually the case for most of the tracks on this record. However the versions are only lengthened for "Between Sleeping ..." and "Summer Madness" and it is therefore not on the side of the improvisations that one must look for the novelty.

The length of the tracks is slightly shorter than originally because the rhythm is, in general, a little more sustained. This new tempo associated with more aggressive instruments and vocals give a real youthful touch to all these tracks and this live show could convince an audience that found Landmarq too timid in their studio creations.

These changes obviously do not change the original genre and the primary influences of Landmarq's music. Their neo progressive rock may seem to lack originality to the ears of the defenders of innovation at all costs, but the fans of good neo will enjoy these beautiful inspired tracks even if the names of IQ, Jadis, Pendragon and even Arena may come to mind. Is it surprising when we refer to the biography of this formation born in the English melting pot of progressive.

"Thunderstruck" is an excellent album that has only one flaw, that of making the originals sound a bit dull. But it is surely a good way to get familiar to Landmarq.

RICHARD WRIGHT: Broken China (1996)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Halfway between Peter Gabriel's ambiances and Vangelis' refined research, "Broken China" is a unique object which will succeed in gathering around him fans of seventies prog' as well as afficionados of 21st century sounds.
AL STEWART: Year Of The Cat (1976)
ROCK - "Year of the cat" is an album that has been unjustly forgotten and left aside by too many generations of music lovers who will be able to appreciate its multiple qualities.
