Flower Kings' first album - apart from Roine Stolt's solo album of the same name released a year earlier - "Back In The World Of Adventures" shows that this band had everything it needed to seduce progressive rock fans from the beginning.
Unlike some much more recent albums, this one can be seen by many as an alternative between the Swedish specificities of these musicians and the relative ease of access of much older bands. In other words, there are still a lot of Genesis and Yes among the Flower Kings at that time, while leaving enough place for what will make the reputation of the Swedes, with the most experimental albums to come, such as "Flower Power" or "Unfold The Future".
In 1995, the tone was set with both very typical progressive rock tracks, with long flights of fancy and frequent changes of atmosphere, such as "World Of Adventures", "Go West Judas" or the splendid "Theme For A Hero" with its formidable feeling, intimate songs such as "Train To Nowhere" and an incursion, surprising at first glance, into the world of free-jazz on "Oblivion Road". The album finally ends with "Big Puzzle", a track that announces alone the future jewels that will be "Stardust We Are" and "I Am The Sun".
Technically, everything that makes Flower Kings is already present, from the careful production to the characteristic sound of this formation, through the attraction of certain sounds, in particular the very present saxophone of Ulf Wallander.
So it's certainly not the Flower Kings' best album, but it's definitely a good way to understand the early days of a band's career that has since clearly shown the extent of its talent. - Official website
