After four years of absence populated by a DVD (Black Symphony) and an acoustic live, Within Temptation decided to take a turn in 2011 that moves them away from Metal and closer to Pop. The band who is now looking for immediate effect offers us this year "The Unforgiving", a clearly commercial record.
But even if this record may seem a little easy at first ease, you will find in it some really interesting things like the riffs of "In The Middle Of The Night" (Magnus Karlson comes out of this body!) and its grandiloquent bridge or the solos of "Shot In The Dark", "Faster" and "A Demon's Fate". In addition to this the luminous choruses that splash the opus are a real joy, the very Symphonic Metal "Iron" with its rchestra is a jewel and "A Demon's Fate" carries a dazzling melodic line.
So, the metallic side of the riffs is less present than before the fault of three ballads and a mid-tempo ("Shot In The Dark") where they can only express themselves a little, but also because of the Pop approach of some songs like "Sinead", "Faster" or "A Demon's Fate". It's a fact. But when the result is a succession of hits, who cares ? - Official website
