1984: a great year for metal. Without being exhaustive, let's recall that it was the year of "Ride The Lightning" by Metallica, of "Hail To England" by Manowar, of "Stay Hungry" by Twisted Sister, of "Out Of The Cellar" by Ratt etc... In short, a memorable year, because it is also the year of the first albums of W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint, two essential albums of heavy metal which will collect all the votes of the chroniclers of the metal magazines of the time. The common point between these two bands, who already had an EP to their credit, was their origin: California.
Armored Saint led by John Bush, his singer better known for having joined Anthrax, signs an album of anthology with "March Of The Saint". First of all, it' s one of the most beautiful heavy metal cover that has ever been made. The one on the vinyl back, darker, represents the band on motorcycles with nails in the same scenery destroyed by the band's passage. A beautiful illustration of the effect brought by the music contained in this opus.
There' s also this unique voice, recognizable among all, with this pronounced American accent and this particular singing of John Bush, which give an unquestionable plus-value to the heavy metal of the band. Led by a talented pair of guitarists, Armored Saint delivers compositions with unstoppable riffs and solid guitar solos. The American band offers us compositions with heady intros, like the classic and unforgettable "March Of Saint", the delightful "Glory Hunter", or the unforgettable "False Alarm". The Californians deliver us musical swords like "Can U Deliver" with sharp riffs and great classic of the band, such as the speed "Mad House" or "Seducer" and "Mutiny On The World". With "Take A Turn", Armored Saint also knows how to calm down the game, without falling into the mawkish ballad. Finally, the band throws us a somewhat jungle composition with his " Stricken By Fate " and his unforgettable guitars final.
With "March Of Saint", Armored Saint offers us a first album which is remarkable in all ways and which made a small impression when it was released, as much as W.A.S.P.'s eponymous first album. Except that the two groups will not really know the same success. An essential album of the American heavy metal which represents one of the most beautiful testimonies of this Californian wave which came to Europe at the beginning of the 80s. - Official website
