7 weeks is from Limoges and trained in 2006. After an EP and a very well received first stoner-oriented album "All Channels Off", they are back with a concept album, based on Bob Clark's movie "Dead Of Night" released in 1974. A few unreleased compositions integrated in a soundtrack with a lot of sound effects and dialogues, the bet to interest the listener on the long run with such a project is daring.
Let's be clear, this record, which is not a usual release, should be listened to with a visual support and this is what the band offers in concert. But despite this choice which can be disabling, listening to "Dead Of The Night" is really fascinating. The band has the talent to set up atmospheres that don't need images, and the music that oscillates between stoner, indus and grunge arouses multiple emotions.
For those who don't know the band, this can even be a nice introduction as the maturity and the power of the few original compositions proposed exceeds the band's previous efforts. The most beautiful example is undoubtedly the sequence of "Coming Home" and "Reunion" which alternates musical violence and challenging dialogues, the whole often supported by a strong bass.
7 Weeks revisits 20 years of music, going from Fad Gadget to Stranglers and cleverly borrows from Pearl Jam and Monster Magnet. This opus is certainly the gate to a new era for this original band. - Official website
