"Between rock and progressive metal, "Veritas" is a rather varied album with very good tracks that are relatively easy to approach and especially two unavoidables epic tracks."

InVertigo, a young German band created in 2007, is releasing here their second album 'Veritas', following the album 'Next stop Vertigo' released in 2010, which was part of a progressive symphonic rock style.
Musically quite close to Sylvan, ACT or Porcupine Tree, the band has nevertheless a very particular signature, presenting itself as a classical formation with two very present keyboards, a bright rhythmic line and sparkling guitars. The sung tracks are all longer than 6 minutes, including two epic tracks of 14 and 22 minutes. Another important point is that a lot of progress has been made in the field of vocals and choirs compared to the previous opus.
The first tracks follow each other easily, mixing technique and musicality with an incredible intensity, especially 'Darkness' and 'Lullaby' which are close to the best songs of Sylvan, ACT or Spock's Beard. The interlude 'Dr. Ho', which is an absolutely festive, crazy, entertaining track, with cheerful lyrics and keyboards going from 80's style to pure vintage 70's, is a musical UFO that fits perfectly in the middle of the album !
Then comes 'Suspicion', a well-constructed track of more than thirteen minutes with a beautiful introduction which then gives way to an instrumental part largely dominated by keyboards. Then come sequences alternating metal parts with much calmer breakthroughs. The transitions are made with delicacy by some light oriental touches in the melodies.
Finally, comes the finale in apotheosis, a 22 minutes track built like a concept album. The title is 'Memoirs Of A Mayfly', which includes a prologue and ten chapters on the life of an ephemeral, based on an excellent text and whose music offers a clever mix of metal and progressive. Saxophone, flute, chorus, restless riffs, tasty keyboards, ... All these elements are there to make you share the life of a small flying insect living only one day. A simply surprising exercise, all the more so as it has been done with a lot of humour!
Veritas is a rather varied album with very good tracks that are relatively easy to approach and especially two epic tracks that cannot be ignored. An essential opus that will certainly end up in my annual top 10. - Official website
