Fans of Nightwish, Edenbridge and other Seraphim, here is a band that has all the characteristics to make you salivate. Lunatica, is its name, and it graces us with its second album, a subtle mix of the above-mentioned bands with a well asserted personality.
Lunatica successfully applies a proven recipe, but this time it is magnified by Andrea Dätwyler's particularly bewitching female voice. Celestial and slightly nasal, it could have seemed a bit too soft compared to the power delivered by the band's musicians. In the end, this is absolutely not the case, the contrast is very well integrated and the music serves the intonations and the melodies of the vocals wonderfully.
The compositions are neat with many Power Metal inspirations with more serene breaks and symphonic intros with heady refrains. The whole is always harmonious and compact. One can even distinguish the addition of electro sounds, fortunately used sparingly, but very judiciously placed. On the other hand, and this is a surprise, the guitar solos are very few, even if this doesn't diminish the scope of the whole.
Without being very audacious, Lunatica's music knows how to seduce and, just like the production, it serves the general harmony itself sublimated by the talents of its vocalist. "Fables And Dreams" is a very good album and still manages to shine among the numerous releases cluttering the genre.
