"Colour Temple" is the first album of the German progressive band which will become one of the best known in Europe. This album has the particularity to be declined in several versions: the first release in 1994 in self-production with a purple cover and the second one a year later under the label "Dream Circle" with the gold cover as we know it. But the latter will in turn be available in three versions: one for Europe, a limited edition for France with two bonus tracks ("Fire" and "Days On Thunder") and one for Japan.

For their debut, Vanden Plas did not choose the difficulty and presents with "Colour Temple" a metal album at the intersection of heavy and progressive. The tracks are all very catchy from the first listening with very short intros to the keyboards leading quickly to the guitar riffs. The latter are found almost everywhere, generally accompanied by synth chords in the background and overhung by often dusty vocals. Many solos are scattered throughout the album, as are the changes in rhythm and phrasing.

For a first try, you have to admit that the result is quite convincing. Some tracks have real emotional content (Anytime). However, because of a set that is a little too much obvious, the sensations are often absent or quickly fade away. "Colour Temple" can please by its easily assimilable side but this double-edged aspect can make it an album that quickly loses its interest.

TRANSATLANTIC: Bridge Across Forever (2001)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Second album of the supergroup Transatlantic, "Bridge Across Forever" is neither better nor worse than the previous one, but rather subtly different.
VANDEN PLAS: God Thing - Special Edition (1997)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Thanks to the intelligent use of various instruments such as the piano, a few strings and synthesizer, "God Thing" imposes Vanden Plas as a band to discover.
