"If you have nothing against religiously oriented lyrics, if you like Spock's Beard and Transatlantic, you should like this musically very rich "One"."

New album, new act of faith. One year after his first Christian "Testimony", Neal Morse returns to bring us the good word with "One".

Let's settle from the outset the fate of the lyrics of this new hymn by Brother Neal. Obviously "One" speaks of God since he is, along with man, one of the two protagonists of this opus which is as conceptual as the Bible is. The man who separated himself from God through sin will repent and obtain divine forgiveness so that he can once again be ONE with his creator.

Neal's multi-instrumentalist talents are no longer a surprise, the man has genius and mastery. Supported by the charismatic Mike Portnoy's drums and the excellent Randy George's bass, Neal Morse serves us a clever mix of progressive rock, muscular at times, sometimes symphonic, but always finely inspired.

A track like 'Author of confusion' is in a movement oscillating between Dream Theater and Spock's Beard, the power of the theater alternating with prog interludes with 'Spockian' vocals.

This album, which offers an impressive length of almost 80 minutes, includes two large tracks, whose chapter structure recalls the great hours of Transatlantic. The recipe that consists in interspersing slow and acoustic passages with powerful and electric covers works wonderfully.

Each minute brings its share of musical surprises. Towards the middle of 'The separated man' the music drifts towards an electro-acoustic folk with slightly oriental echoes before setting off again on electric style which itself will give way to a concerto with choir.

From the ballad 'Cradle to the grave' to the jazzy 'Help me' which ends in gospel and the very symphonic 'Reunion', we don't see the time passed and it is probable that if the mass was always of this quality, the churches would be full of faithful.

If you have nothing against religiously oriented lyrics, if you liked "Testimony", Spock's Beard and Transatlantic, you should like this musically very rich album.
