Seven Reizh is the project of two musicians (Claude Mignon and Gérard Le Dortz), involved in the creation of a rock opera in Breton language. The idea is crazy and completely at odds with the formatted pop music that makes our daily life, but the Bretons are stubborn and "Strinkadenn'Ys" will be released in 2001.

The work is entirely in Breton language and enhanced with local sounds. The songs are gorgeous, whether the male or female voices, the latter carried by the absolute purity of Bleunwennn's timbre. It is worth mentioning the presence of the Kabyle singer Farid Aït Siameur who gives an oriental sound to the lyrics of his character, thus proposing a marvellous mix of languages. Around the framework created by the duo Claude and Gerard, come to graft multiple traditional instruments such as binious and bombards played by local musicians and, for the power, it is the bagad Penhars which comes to make thunder his bagpipes.

The story of this concept album is built like a Celtic legend and tells us about Enora, a stonecutter who brings granite back to life. The heroine travels in a fantastic world, meeting good and cruel creatures. The end of the adventure will bring us to the heart of Ys, the legendary buried city.

The progressive influences of Seven Reizh's music are obvious. The "modern" sounds are inspired by the greatest 'atmospherists' such as David Gilmour or Andrew Latimer. It is continuously that under the folkloric layer one is surprised to discover the more rock accents of the guitars in a register which goes from the aerial ballad to the metallic riff.

"Strinkadenn'Ys" is a masterpiece of balance between progressive and traditional influences. Bleunwenn's voice is a jewel and the story is totally coherent with calm passages clashing with the violence of powerful orchestrations. An essential album!

NDLR: the album exists in a limited version, with a beautiful 50-page color booklet that tells the story of "Strinkadenn'Ys" once in French with the lyrics in Breton and once in Breton with the lyrics in French.

ARENA: Pepper's Ghost (2005)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Despite its FM side, Pepper's Ghost is a very good album that fans will appreciate without forcing themselves
A PERFECT CIRCLE: Emotive (2004)
HARD ROCK - Emotive is a very bad album title compared to the content you can find there. Everything is soft, flat, without strength.
