Signed by the respectable Tee Pee Records, what distinguishes these Germans from others seventies-style Hard Rock bands? Nothing at first sight and yet a lot. With their fur jacket, Lindemann, Mammut and Tiger sign here a simply incredible first record that doesn't only capture the juicy feeling of the seventies, close to Led Zep and other Sabbath, it also finds its soul without sounding dated or looking like a forgotten relic. Anachronistic yes, but not outdated. In short, Kadavar has understood everything, notably that the ideal length of a record remains that of vinyl.

Bathed in a deliciously occult atmosphere, the menu has enough to satisfy the most demanding and when listening to it, one immediately understands why the power-trio has been propelled to the throne of Psychedelic Rock. There's that indefinable "thing" that makes all the difference. This is probably what we call magic. Magic of a timeless music, of a voice drowned under the effects, of an orgasmic guitar whose eruptions give shivers ("Purple Sage"), magic of a generous bass ("Black Sun"), of a grooving drum set ("Living In Your Head") and magic always of worked and direct compositions, simple but refined in their heavy and black atmospheres. The hits follow one another : "Forgotten Past" and its bluesy curves, "Creature Of The Demon", "Goddess Of Dawn"...

Impeccable all the way through and on all levels, one finally wonders how the Berliners will manage to do better next time, as they set the bar so high from the start. That's all the trouble we wish them... In any case, Kadavar have not lived up to their flattering reputation, their tryout is a masterstroke and, without being the masterpiece that some people want to sell us, is one of the best nuggets that the genre has delivered in 2012.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA: Out Of The Blue (1977)
POP - In this "Out Of The Blue", ELO season its melodic rock with a good dose of disco-style pop which makes his songs very easy to listen to.
AEON ZEN: Enigma (2013)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - If this 'Enigma' will satisfy the hardcore fans of progressive metal, it addresses itself to a much wider metal audience, thanks to a beautiful variety and a real coherence.
