Keeping a sustained rhythm, the Texas trio of King's X offers us its 3rd studio disc just over a year after the fabulous "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska". Still guided by Sam Taylor, whose influence remains strong, "Faith Love Hope" with its obvious biblical title is proposed by a group hailed by critics but whose melting pot struggles to exceed the framework of informed amateurs.
In spite of everything Tabor, Gaskill and Pinnick don't get discouraged and will offer us a real jewel, pure quintessence of their writing talent. Navigating between pop, hard, blues, funk and soul music, the musicians no longer settle down any barriers and offer us an album of 13 tracks of intense richness. Vocal harmonies are added to it to give a brilliant and homogeneous result, each song bringing its stone to the edifice.
From the superb intro 'We Are Finding Who We Are' to 'Fine Art Of Frendship' and the intense eponymous track, King's X explodes with a thousand lights. As soon as the opening track, you are immersed in the band's universe and this musical warmth takes your guts to never let you go.
Ty Tabor offers beautiful, simple and effective songs like 'I Can't Help It' and the single 'It's Love', a perfect hit and intelligent tribute to the Beatles. On the other hand, the band also delivers with less obvious songs like 'Moanjam', a quasi-instrumental piece in the form of a mind-blowing jam with a brilliant solo by Tabor. With the ballad 'Six Broken Soldiers', Jerry Gaskill finally becomes lead singer and he is doing very well. With 'Talk To You' and 'Everywhere i Go' Pinnick brings out his soul and blues influences and mixes them perfectly with the band's energetic rock.
"Faith, Love, Hope" is a classic of the band but also of rock in general. With this album King's X is on a first-name basis with the stars and gives us the best of himself. It was at that time allowed to think that the group was finally going to get the recognition it deserves despite a surprising fusion of genres. - Official website
