"Retro Tox forte" is the third album of Toxic Smile, a German band that was until this release rather unknown to the general public. It's hard to be known with a first album that was impossible to find and a second one distributed by BMG Korea.

Beginning with a strange baroque choir sung in French (with a strong accent), Toxic Smile's music will not fail to surprise or even disturb. Brutal and delirious, the track that follows only confirms the malicious pleasure that Toxic Smile has in blurring the lines. 'Raised' is a pure jewel of progressive music à la A.C.T. with fiery or caressing guitar choruses and a powerful and magnificent voice. This voice is also in the forefront of 'Fall Down', a more classic but nonetheless excellent track. Then comes 'Escape', a pretty ballad with a sax background, just enough to give you a break before 'Pyramid' and its Apocalyptica-like introduction.

'Confidence In Deception' is the centrepiece of the album. The track starts with a very classic-romantic, playful piano solo that turns into a fabulous guitar/piano duet after two minutes. This duet will serve as a background with recurrent piano lines until the sixth minute when a break occurs bringing vocal raving (opera and rap) which have the good taste to last only the time of a joke. With the piano returning for the finale, 'Confidence In Deception' is a demonstration of the band's musical intelligence with a rarely achieved alchemy of sounds. The album ends with an astonishing 'Heavsent', an assemblage of genres, starting on a classical guitar, passing through metal, electro and even pop, and ending on a detuned fanfare.

Mixing the genres, (Metal, Heavy and Progressive, A.O.R. and even pop) "Retro Tox Forte" is the perfect example of what high class musicians can produce when they let their imagination and fantasy run free. Toxic Smile is clearly a band in a class of its own and deserves a lot of attention.

MELODIC HARD ROCK - For his first record, Starbreaker offered us a little nugget of melodic hard rock to classify between TNT and Pink Cream 69.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Between progressive rock and 70's hard-rock, "Motions Of Desire" is a good business card for this young band in the making...
