In terms of black and possessed work, Triptykon had hit hard with his first album, "Eparistera Daimones", then with the EP "Shatter", a perfect extension of the record. With an unpredictable Tom Fischer, prey to a deep depression that almost took away his taste for life, this new opus was almost unhoped for.

Unsurprisingly, Triptykon doesn't evolve much and plunges us into a bewitching dark metal, borrowing at the same time from Black Death and funeral Doom. This record is a new black and implacable work, gorged with a hatred that we feel strong but also totally disillusioned, putting in music all the author's evil being.

This slow descent into hell can be felt in a suffocating 'Tree Of Suffocating Souls' perfectly named after him and carrying all this deaf violence. The intensity doesn't wane with a huge 'Altar Of Deceit', the disastrous and very brutal 'Breathing' and above all the masterpiece that is 'Black Snow'. With this track of more than 12 minutes, Triptykon touches the sublime and offers us a monument of dark doom with a terrifying refrain whose haunting melody creates a really impressive horror atmosphere.

The band also makes itself incantatory with a heavy, fatal 'Boleskine House' that sees Fischer spitting out his hatred perfectly accompanied by the falsely angelic voice of Simone Vollenweider. This sweetness reaches its climax on the superb 'Aurorae', magnified by an explosive atmospheric riff. Finally the album ends in a melancholic way with the very pure 'Waiting' in which Simone does wonders in this aerial register.

Lovers of black and desperate art, don't miss "Melana Chasmata". Triptkyon confirms all the cold and violent beauty of his music. Rarely have hatred, sadness and fear been so well transcribed and highlighted. Fischer and his band have given us a new masterpiece in this genre.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Far from the stylistic exercises of a guitar-hero, "The Ghosts Of Pripyat" highlights the incomparable talent of Steve Rothery and provides clear evidence of his major influence within Marillion.
