With my feet dangling in the air, the headphones screwed on my ears, I savour the first sensual undulations of Intronaut, shaken by these vibrations of virginal primary purity. This new Intronaut, this surrealist music bathed in technicality, is like a Christmas before its time, with its cyclical guitars and its deaf rage carried by thick and complex riffs worthy of Textures.

"The Direction Of Fast Things" is the new offering of a band that wants to affirm that it has found its identity. Nevertheless this identity is schizophrenic, because their music goes through the modern lands of a hallucinated post-rock, of hypnotic shoegaze punctuated by loops of arpeggios, and sounds on the edge of the djent. The guitars are precise, the melody always present, the voice in turn enchanting or shrill and the drums complex, imposing an astonishing repetitive groove.

The journey into outer space begins on a powerful note ('Fast Worms'). The combo starts with a few suspended bars, as a foretaste of the atmosphere it wants to impose, then a nervous riff arrives without warning. The voice sticks wonderfully to this roaring violence, with screams but also with a clear song that expresses a lot of emotion; the guitars weave a slimy web in which the melodies cross and unravel. One therefore has the feeling that the slightest intervention is essential to the musical discourse, never digression or sufficient and pretentious dressing, everything is thus at the service of the composition... The rhythm then becomes heavier ('Digital Gerrymandering'), these very metal passages bring a real power which ends in apotheosis on a melody beautiful to cry. Moreover, the compositions are renewed every second, deploying drawers which themselves open on other drawers, mixing violence ('The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing') and almost prog sounds worthy of Dream Theater or Between The Buried and Me.

The tracks of 'The Direction of Last Things' are unexpected and bluffing thanks to all the variations they contain. This art of composition is magnified by the systematic interweaving of moments of great beauty and moments of pure rage. "The Direction of Last Things" is nothing less than one of the best albums of the year.
