In the world of progressive rock, the name "Morse" is definitely a guarantee of quality! Although Tim has nothing to do with his American friends Alan and Neal who have already proven themselves on many occasions, it must be recognized that like his fellow citizens, the multi-instrumentalist has undeniable qualities of composition.
His fans will be happy to see him back as a soloist, as his appearances under his own name are so rare. After a first album, "Transformation" released in 2005, and a second opus, "Faithscience" released in 2012, it took the musician 6 more years to release his third effort soberly named "Tim Morse III".
Behind this title are 7 tracks with different universes but constant quality. The album begins with a very symphonic 'Wake Up' with a catchy chorus, immediately arousing the interest of the listener. In the short formats, each song is unique: 'The Marquis' with its jazzy piano, 'The Mary Celeste' with its many equally beautiful sections, or 'My Ally' with its catchy side. Through three different styles, Tim Morse shows that he masters his compositions down to the smallest details.
We are thus dealing with a rock that can be characterized as progressive because of its changes of moods and its succession of sometimes very different sections, more than by its pure technique. The length of some tracks is also not foreign to the choice of this stylistic label. 'Labyrinth' cheerfully demonstrates this with its bluesy verses, its atmospheric bridges and its changes of measures. Long of more than 11 minutes, the title remains perfectly coherent despite its multiple twists and turns while 'The Path' and its 9 minutes is in the same line with its symphonic and immediate beginning which ends with wild guitar solos.
Whatever the register, this "Tim Morse III" is convincing for sure and the pieces it contains show a remarkable quality of writing, having the advantage of always being appreciable after many listenings. Let's just hope that in the future, we won't have to wait too long for a new record... - Official website
