In the family of hard rock combos that have released more than fifteen albums, Bonfire must probably be one of the least known bands. Indeed, after sixteen albums, this Bavarian band, born in Ingolstadt in 1986, has only released two real good albums, the excellent "Fireworks" and "Point Blank", both devoted to the German hard rock FM movement.
It's true that between the line-up changes, the surprising musical evolutions (turn towards country rock in the 90's) and the insipid records, success is not there. Nevertheless the combo continues against all odds to regularly release testimonials of its survival. The last one dates back to 2018 and it was a double one, a good "Temple Of Lies" and "Legends", a record of covers.
In this "Fistful Of Fire", although the German paw is still alive and kicking, the melodic inspirations of yesteryear are not often to be found. The rough aspect takes over here and tracks with basic choruses invariably follow on from each other. Thus, although the riffs are dynamics throughout the tracks, the listener is left hungry. 'Breaking Out', the eponymous track, 'Fire And Ice', 'Gloryland' (which refers to the Judas Priest from 'Screaming For Vengeance') are among them. The three instrumentals don't manage to improve thin (with the exception of the peaceful 'The Joker') and only 'Ride The Blade' and 'Warrior', where Dokken isn't far away, are convincing.
In spite of talented and catchy guitars, including on many quality solos, this set of tracks, insufficiently catchy in melodies and too little varied in their conception, will probably have difficulties to convince Melodic Hard Rock fans. - Official website
