"It took Lowrider twenty years to offer us this "Refractions" but it's worth it!"

Curious course as Lowrider's. Initially, he took part in the stoner wave that hit the turntables at the end of the 90s in the wake of Kyuss, of whom he was a bit the Swedish answer. The band shared a split with Nebula and some gigs with Spiritual Beggars, then ended up giving birth to "Ode To Io" at Meteor City in 2000. In short, it's a whole (blessed) era that its name evokes for all fans of Stoner. But after that flying start, nothing more...
But here it is, this successor of "Ode To Io" that we didn't expect anymore ! Twenty years is a long time. Too long even, justifying the serious doubts that this late return of Lowrider could not fail to arouse. After so many years of inactivity, would he still be able to offer a record worthy of his promising debut? Wouldn't he be a bit rusty now? So many fears that "Refractions" sweeps away with energy and assurance. In little more than five minutes, 'Red River' dispels our doubts with his fat and powerful machine soaked with fuzz that traces its path through a vast desert. The impression of travelling in time is very strong, a bit like if we found ourselves at the dawn of the 2000s.
More psychedelic and nebulous, 'Ode To Ganymede' takes off into space without shedding this rough crust typical of the Swedes. And when an antediluvian Hammond organ appears, it's a guaranteed orgasm, as if Deep Purple was going to space rock! Ultra heavy, its final testifies that Lowrider has no lesson to learn from anyone and especially not from the young generation. Three tracks follow, which swallow the kilometers without any uncontrolled skidding, sometimes hovering ('Sernanders Krog and his eight smoky minutes) or more nervous ('Mule Pepe' and 'Sun Devil_M87)'. And then comes the apotheosis of the album, this 'Pipe Rider', the longest track of the whole, pulsating and velvety, gnarled and biting, a nonchalant but fleshy ballad, on a sunset background which wonderfully synthesizes this Swedish stoner.
It doesn't matter that Lowrider took twenty years to finally offer it to us, "Refractions" will make history as a stoner! Will we have to wait that long before we can enjoy its successor? History will tell us... - Official website
