"Gary Hughes, the leader of Ten, offers us a "waterside" too classic and clearly lacking strong moments."

Gary Hughes is the father of the melodic hard rock band Ten. Author of fourteen albums since 1996, the group lets its frontman escape freely the time of solo opuses which allow him to live a more personal adventure. This one started seven years before the first album of his band invaded the record shops. "Waterside" is his tenth solo work. Dann Rosingana and Darrel Treece-Birch, Ten's guitarist and keyboardist, have come to lend a hand on this new album.
Starting an album with a ballad has a rather clear meaning: "Waterside" is not hard rock, it is at most AOR. 'All At Once It Feels Like I Believe' is a very nice and calm track, as well as the excellent 'The Runaway Damned', torn between Springsteen and Ten or 'Video Show', which inevitably refers to Ten. 'Electra-Glide' offers pleasant verses and 'Seduce Me' and 'Laydown' offer two attractive solos. As for the rest, we are rather in the field of the insipid or the soporific.
We were waiting with a certain impatience for this opus of Gary Hughes. Unfortunately, much too mainstream, 'Waterside' will have a hard time to satisfy the most demanding. We can only hope that this excellent interpreter-composer will renew with his former verve with the next opus of his flagship band that we all wish to find as soon as possible. - Official website
