But what could have pushed Lutz Meinert, head of the Reflection Club project, to follow in the footsteps of one of the most famous albums in the history of progressive rock? From the title of the album to the booklet that accompanies it, imitating in the form of a diary (presenting the project) the album that made the fame of Jethro Tull, everything brings us back to the famous album of Ian Anderson's band "Thick as a Brick", published in 1972. And, ironically, the whole thing was co-written/directed by Lutz Meinert with a certain George Boston, whose surname is eminently close to Gerald Bostock, hero of the original Tull project. Accompanied by Paul Forrest, member of the first Jethro-Tull tribute band in the United Kingdom, and now a full member of the famous Jethro Tull Experience, Lutz Meinert follows in the footsteps of Ian Anderson and his accomplices to deliver 48 minutes of music inspired by this marker of the history of progressive rock.

So of course, there is the flute... but not only, since one will also note the presence of more original instruments like the sitar or very Celtic flutes and bagpipes, just like a battery of percussions not present in Jethro Tull or the presence on certain passages of an orchestra accentuating the symphonic accompaniments. The overall tone delivered by the various musicians is of course in the footsteps of their model, up to the voice of Paul Forrest who takes the accents of Ian Anderson, with a slightly less aggressive tone.

Once evacuated all these comparisons totally unavoidable considering the initial idea of the project, it remains for the listener to enjoy three big quarters of an hour of a new concept containing its share of different themes, some of them being taken up again during the minutes, the whole in impeccable sequences. Progressive rock 70's certainly, but also containing some parts with jazzy contours in the instrumental sections ('Years on the Fast Track'). The interpretation is of high level, the musicians showing a remarkable technique, in particular when the various instruments entangle their respective scores ('The Foray of the Sharks'), inciting the listener to an attentive ear. Their presence is however more discreet in the presence of the vocals, which offers a beautiful alternation of ambiences.

In the same spirit as Rob Reed and his "Sanctuary" project, Reflection Club pays tribute to Jethro Tull's music by writing an original score "in the style of ...". Maybe this kind of exercise will not necessarily convince the greatest number but it remains nevertheless a work of very high quality that everyone will be able to appreciate at its just value.

OTHER REVIEWS
NILS PATRIK JOHANSSON: The Great Conspiracy (2020)
HEAVY METAL - "The Great Conspiracy" is about the assassination of Olaf Palme in 1986. Nils Patrick Johansson delivers an enthralling heavy record, at the same time baroque, theatrical and powerful.
GARY HUGHES: Waterside (2021)
A.O.R. - Gary Hughes, the leader of Ten, offers us a "waterside" too classic and clearly lacking strong moments.
