"With its collection of direct and melodic songs with positive moods, "The Ides Of March" is a pleasant album to listen to that reveals a little more of the talents of Alter Bridge's singer, Myles Kennedy, a generous and sensitive artist."

Myles Kennedy is a very busy musician between his commitments to Alter Bridge and Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators, but he still finds time for his solo works. These allow him to approach the whole of his musical tastes with a more complete and personal approach. Thus, taking advantage of the forced sedentarization of the year 2020, Myles Kennedy made his second record three years after "Year Of The Tiger".
The orientation of "The Ides Of March" is notably more rock than in "Year Of The Tiger", giving Myles all the space to express his guitarist talents. The guitar in all its states could be said, because it is combined on almost the entire record in electric and acoustic form, with a wide variety of instruments to satisfy Myles' greed (dobro, banjo, bottleneck). The American is not one-handed, we had already had several demonstrations in Alter Bridge, multiplying the arpeggios, the riffs which hit the bull's eye and offering himself a solo parenthesis in each of his compositions, with a lot of successes (in the radiant 'Sifting Through The Fire', 'Worried Mind', 'The Ides Of March'). The pleasure of the musician is found in the light and refreshing tone which reigns on the disc.
Myles Kennedy cultivates his American roots with a rock and pop songwriting carried by strong folk, blues and country accents. We find more specifically the rock energy in the first part of the record, with an engaging 'Get Along' with its catchy chorus, 'A Thousand Words' and 'Wake Me When It's Over' with FM charms close to Oliver Hartmann and 'In Stride' in modern blues-country. Thereafter Myles exploits more an extensive mid-tempo format in a succession of rather immediate songs which bring out all the more the double rock and folk/blues dimension of the record ('Sifting Through The Fire', 'Love Rain Down', 'Tell It like It Is', 'Worried Mind') and the vocal performances of Myles ('Wonderlust Begins', 'Moonshot' and its female choruses). The pinnacle of Myles' writing is crystallized in the eponymous title track with a well-found riff and in which melancholy, crooner's voice and epic development are mixed.
"The Ides Of March" is quite different from its predecessor "Year Of The Tiger" both in its rock-oriented content and in its emotional tone that transmits positive vibes. With its collection of direct and melodic songs, "The Ides Of March" is a pleasant album to listen to, which reveals a little more the talents of this generous and sensitive artist. - Official website
