"Technical, cold and animal, this first album of Stengah is a monster of modern metal, guaranteeing him the most beautiful future."

Stengah is a new djent band coming from France. Not so much new, since the date of creation of the formation goes back to 2012, but it took ten years to the musicians to release their first opus, "Soma/Sema". Ten years spent refining their songs and touring, interspersed with a number of line-up changes. Once built around a stable structure, the band sought to gather the best conditions to launch their first album. The northern French band signed a contract with Mascot Records, and it is very rare to see bands releasing a first album with such a major label.
Although it is possible to label Stengah as a djent band, this term could be a bit reductive to qualify the quintet's universe. Stengah is above all a destructive force, sharp guitar riffs, technical, clean and sharp phrasing, cold rhythms, a bombastic drummer and an inhabited and animal vocals. The band rides the current wave of modern metal, with a devastating power made possible by remarkable individual musical qualities, skillfully mixing the worlds of Gojira (the end of 'Swoon') and Fractal Universe ('Message In Memories').
In the middle of this destructive torrent, some rare moments come to bring a little breath, a form of restraint (the ambient intro of 'Swoon', the toolian bass of 'At The Behest Of Origins', the whole end of 'Blank Masses Inheritance' reminding Letters From The Colony). "Soma/Sema" is thus a rather compact and hermetic record which breathes rather little, which can appear as embarrassing for some, a fortiori in a record which approaches fifty minutes. Maybe some touches of originality are missing, like this impromptu saxophone solo in the middle of 'The Overman', or even a form of additional risk-taking, in order to try to stand out from a music with codes that are no longer presented and that Stengah masters.
Anyway, Stengah is a band to follow in the years to come. With such a management at their side and great tours announced, there is no doubt that the band is on the road to success, and they deserve it. - Official website
