Hypno5e is a singular band whose music depicts the shores of a surreal landscape. Originally inhabited by metalcore sounds, it has evolved into a more mellow cinematic music... "Shores of the Abstract Line" was a strong work, playing with contrasts, then "A Distant (dark) Source" a magical album! A handful of years later, here is "Sheol", a continuation of the concept and music of "A Distant (dark) Source". For this new production, the band is reorganized, since Cédric Pages (bass) has left his place to Charles Villanueva and Théo Begue (drums) has been replaced by Pierre Rettien.

"Sheol' is a world of diaphanous beauty paradoxically introduced by the roaring bass of 'Sheol - Part I - Nowhere'. The diptych 'Slow Streams Of Darkness' alone sums up the bittersweet orientation of the record, serenely opening with airy chords allied to an extract from 'Les Enfants Du Paradis'. The variations are multiple, the metrics complex and the constant oscillations between rage and sweetness are the essence of the track. It's a song full of sweetness where the sublime harmonies answer those of 'Sheol', where the arpeggios are soft and tender and the riffs rumbling. A master stroke that ends the record on a sublime note.

'Sheol' is the symmetrical one. The first part is very gentle, guided by a recitation of a poem by César Vallejo, and then punctuated by fine percussion, ethereal strings and hypnotic guitars. The second part is intense, burning and percussive, started by rumbling drums, fat guitar and aggressive vocals softened by haunting guitar and vocal harmonies worthy of Pink Floyd ('Echoes'). A beautiful track that offers its share of variations to bring out pure emotion. Finally, 'The Dreamer And His Dream' begins with airy strings and dark melodies, then the drums bring a technical touch intensified by delicate rhythmic placements of the guitar. Variations, rhythmic breaks, steely riffs and sharp saturated vocals amplify the emotion: a track of simple and effective beauty.

"Sheol" is a strong record that combines ethereal passages, furious moments, sublime harmonies, varied meters and formidable technique. Hypno5e navigates on a rollercoaster alternating calm passages and intense fury. "Sheol" offers a music apart, cinematic, mature and powerful. Grandiose and sublime, luminous and intense, this album is an almost total success only tarnished by its length.
