A year after their talented "Are You Ready", Degreed return for the seventh time with this "Public Address", whose cover is just as unsuccessful as the previous one. Listening to an album by the Swedes is always a step into the unknown. Adept at interweaving styles, the band sometimes pops up where you least expect them. So what did they bring with them this time?

Whereas last year's opus immediately stunned the listener, 2023 immediately arouses suspicion. Too rough around the edges and not melodic enough, the first two tracks have little impact. This muted concern is shattered on the very next track. 'The Way Of The World' brings back Degreed's melodic verve. Omnipresent in their modern hard/metal rock, full of big riffs, pop synths and AOR melodies frequently in boosted mode, it remains the combo's trademark. The floodgates are now open, offering the opportunity to overwhelm the listener with an impetuous stream of hits.

'Resist The Urge' recalls the work of H.E.A.T. and 'A Safe Place' evokes the productions of Black Paisley. 'Free Again' is powerfully addictive and 'No One' doesn't skimp on riffs. Only the last two tracks, with ambiences close to Creye's constructions, offer melodies insufficiently appealing to compensate for the roughness of the lyrics.

Despite these two thirds of a remarkable opus, "Public Adress" doesn't reach the level of its elder brother. Nonetheless, there's enough melodic energy here to galvanize any melodic hard Rock fan.
