Little by little, TALC is refining its style. After “Talc2”, which subtly blended refined post-prog and inventive post-rock, the Swiss trio's “Talc III” takes their exploration of ambiences and convoluted textures even further, as their music remains entirely instrumental. If “Talc2” was a voyage of initiation, “Talc III” is an interstellar odyssey, a journey through the galaxy, where each track designates a star, and during which the band takes its time to let us drift to the whim of its musical inspirations constructed with the precision of a watchmaker.

From the very first notes of 'Mesarthim', the tone is set: layers of analog synth open up the sound space, quickly joined by guitar riffs and a surgically precise rhythm section. The track oscillates between melodic progressions and long instrumental sections where Antonin Wiser's guitar soars freely, supported by Hervé Baumgartner's ample bass and Vincent Verselle's inventive drums. Faithful to their approach since “Talc I”, the band combine virtuosity and musicality without ever sinking into sterile demonstration.

Betelgeuse' and 'Antares' continue this exploration with a more progressive approach. Evolving structures, overlapping keyboards and changing dynamics plunge the listener into an almost hypnotic state. This is TALC's great strength: giving their music time to breathe, so that each instrument can find its place. The length of the tracks is not an obstacle, as each composition is at the service of a deeply ethereal and immersive music.

But while the album is more atmospheric than its predecessor, it is not lacking in heavier moments, such as the excellent 'Aldebaran', which plays on the contrast between soaring flights and stoner ambiences, or the darker 'Theemin', on which the saturation of the guitars flirts with a psychedelic doom aesthetic.

Even if the highly abstract 'Voyager III' breaks the overall dynamic a little and closes the album on a purely electronic and experimental note, “Talc III” is without doubt TALC's most accomplished album to date. More homogeneous in its approach, bolder in its sonic experimentation, it proves that the Lausanne trio has found its place somewhere between space rock, post-prog and instrumental psychedelia. A must for all fans of immersive, atmospheric music.

OTHER REVIEWS
GOTTHARD: Stereo Crush (2025)
HARD ROCK - In this “Stereo Crush”, Gotthard combines too few hits, merely decent titles and disappointing tracks.
KARIBOW: Panterrania (2024)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Too long and smoothed out by a very uniform production, “Panterrania” struggles to captivate.
