"Close to Riverside or Porcupine Tree, lovers of dark atmospheres should be convinced by this Stolen Thoughts."

Since the arrival of Riverside, progressive music lovers know that Polish prog is not (only) synonymous with neo. Thus the sextet of Retrospective settles into this movement between atmospheric and metal that sometimes frequent the acolytes of Mariusz Duda, but also those of Steven Wilson with Porcupine Tree.
The previous album, released this year (Spectrum of the Green Morning) was a short essay already noticed by the Music Waves editorial staff. The Stolen Thoughts we are talking about here reflects the same claimed influences, against a still dark background.
Some sides do indeed remind Riverside: the band also plays on the contrast between a rather dynamic rhythmic (rhythmic held here more on the guitar than on the bass like Mariusz Duda) and rather flying keyboards. However, the vocals do not have the same magic, Jakub Roszak's timbre being rather monotonous, which has a small tendency to unify the mood. The listener is thus closer to Timothy Pure's ambiences than to those of Riverside, and one can find at times reminiscences of Sylvan (Defend your Identity, Memories). The atmospheric side is very present, reinforced by sound effects (fire noises, thunder) and lyrics scattered in the background.
As in all atmo albums, it is better to take your time to let yourself be taken by the atmosphere. The longest tracks (It's Time ot Grow up, Asleep) are the most successful in this field, even if the rest of the album is not to be outdone. Lovers of dark atmospheres should be convinced by this Stolen Thoughts, in line with what Retrospective had shown with the previous Spectrum: a good pickaxe! - Official website
