Ephemeral Sun is an American band led by guitarist Brian O'Neil. Formed in 2002 from the ashes of a former Doom combo, the band released a first album in 2004 - Broken Door in a progressive dark-metal style.

With their second production, elaborated during 5 years, they wanted to make their purpose more complex, to produce an ambitious, totally instrumental music, seeking, I quote, to explore new musical territories. Wouldn't that be the definition of progressive rock? Note that to complete their approach, most of the tracks were recorded "live".

'Springsong' will immediately lay the foundations of the new orientation of Ephemeral Sun: if the metal side remains present, especially in some guitar choruses, it remains however rather marginal. So yes, the band possesses an impressive power, but it is put at the service of an intelligent progressive rock, served by outstanding musicians and animated by an imagination that seems limitless. The themes follow one another, cross each other, are made and undone to better resurface. The dissonant passages serve as a link, the more metallic parts reinforce the vigor of the subject, some acoustic parts calm the whole and last but not least, our friends reward us with some solos often short, but beautiful. After these 13 hectic minutes, the progressive lover is already satisfied ... but it is only the beginning!

'Prism' continues the path traced by its predecessor, emphasizing a little more the work of the rhythm section, while 'Memoirs', brings a calmer parenthesis in the general maelstrom of the album... But it is to better prepare the ears of the listener to the main course of the album, a title track lasting 42 minutes! The absolute fantasy of progressive rock in all its splendor!

And frankly, this piece is captivating from beginning to end. Of course, it is impossible to describe all the details here, but expect a slap in the face. After about twenty minutes, with all kinds of emotions, the listener, wandering between metal, classic progressive or neo, or even a few incursions into pastoral Oldfield lands, is offered a few minutes of calmed breathing, allowing him to rest his neurons a little before flying away for a second part just as captivating as the first one... So much so that it is with amazement (and sadness!) that we note the end of the track.

Lovers of progressive rock, this album is made for you... But not only ! It will delight all those who feel ready to embark on an explosive journey, ready to forget for a moment, just for a moment, all that is around them to immerse themselves in a fascinating musical universe from beginning to end.

PEARL JAM : Binaural (2000)
ROCK - Like its two previous efforts, Pearl Jam has real qualities and obvious charm, but it struggles to maintain the magic throughout the whole of 'Binaural'.
AIRBOURNE: No Guts, No Glory (2010)
HARD ROCK - Leave aside the fact that Airbourne plays AC/DC and come and take your dose of energy and good humor
