"The compositions of this "Back On Track" are unfortunately too close to "Gotthard" to really convince."

Writing a review sometimes reserves great moments of solitude. Indeed, no matter how much you listen and listen again to an album, everything remains smooth to your ear and no catchphrase is offered to you to attack the criticism of the music that is proposed to you. Impossible to praise the object, and nothing that justifies criticizing it harshly.
This is once again the case with this "Back On Track", the eighth studio opus of the Bernese band Shakra. However, there would be something to say about the events that have punctuated the life of the Swiss quintet since their previous album. Indeed, Mark Fox left the ship shortly after the release of "Everest" and so auditions had to be organized to replace him. In the midst of a hundred contenders, it was the singer John Prakesh, originally from India, who won the contest thanks to a powerful voice reminiscent of the late Steve Lee (Gotthard).
And that's where things got a little worse because Shakra never really managed to emerge from the shadow of Gotthard recently bereaved by the tragic death of his charismatic singer. Apart from a grungy "Fall", every album systematically refers to the giant and unfortunately, it's not this "Back On Track" that will change the situation. Everything is perfectly executed, there's power ("B True B You"), catchy choruses and riffs ("Crazy", "Back On Track"), beautiful ballads ("When I See You", "Lonesomeness") and even a heavy and melancholic side far from being unpleasant ("Yesterday's Gone"), but there isn't any originality nor personality.
It's a pity because the whole is perfectly produced and interpreted and John Prakesh perfectly stands comparison with his predecessors. So some may argue that Gotthard is unlikely to return to the limelight any time soon and that we will be happy to find Shakra to fill the void left by the irreplaceable Steve Lee and his band. They are probably right, but for the moment, the drama is still too close and painful for us to console ourselves with this "Back On Track" while "Domino Effect" is still right next to our turntable. - Official website
