ELOY: Chronicles I (PROGRESSIVE ROCK): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

Five years after having relaunched Eloy, and after the success of "Ra" and "Destination", the duo Bornemann / Gerlach decides not only to reissue the first albums of the band, but also to launch a review of the band's work, in the form of two CDs entitled "Chronicles". But, far from being satisfied with a standard compilation, our two companions decide to their old productions, and to re-record them with the new sound techniques, those used for their last two productions, reviving for the occasion the flame of Eloy with the participation of the former major members of the band.

First part of the project, "Chronicles I" presents a selection of nine tracks from the albums of the major period of the band, the one that stretches from "Ocean" to "Time to Turn", completed by an unreleased track from the "Destination" sessions. Reading the track-list, the choice proves to be completely judicious, since from "Poseidon's Creation" to "End of an Odyssey", the band offers us a series of hits largely tested since two decades.

But what is the most striking in all this, it is the incredible power of these various titles, adorned with their new finery: a sound even brighter, clearer, more than rumbling bass, a luminous drums and always these hard-planing symphonic-cosmic ambiences to give you goosebumps.

Where the original versions released in the 70's and 80's were already a reference on these different aspects, "Chronicles I" goes one step further towards excellence. It is enough to put headphones on your ears and to let yourself be carried away by the 4 minutes of the introduction of "End of An Odyssey", to be convinced of the real interest of this compilation, including for the absolute fan of the band who already owns the whole work.

You will have understood, much more than a compilation, "Chronicles I" proves to be as much a privileged entry door for the novice, as an ultimate achievement for the fan, both willing to immerse themselves in the incomparable universe of Eloy. - Official website
