Formed in 2001, the Black Stone Cherry waited several years to record their first EP while they were still in high school. The band and this new album is the result of an irresistible recipe concocted by four trendy boys and based on several ingredients.

First of all, the vocals of guitarist Chris Robertson, whose slightly rocky and sexy timbre may evoke David Coverdale's immense organ ("Maybe Someday"). Man has a lot to do with the charm and power of this seductive ensemble, which can also count on a rhythmic foundation of the fire of God ("Blackwoods Gold"): huge), a handful of arrangements (the keyboards of "When Their Weight Comes Down") and especially on a cleverly balanced writing between a pinch of Hard seventies, a finger of Rock bluesy and a southern swig (the Slide intro of "Crosstown Woman"), all (too) calibrated for the American kid looking for some strong sensations (but not too much).

The result is this swarm of hymns, all more unstoppable than the others, with a very clean sound crust and barely soiled by a few thicker slags, from "Rain Wizard" whose first bars and the riff that serves as its backbone are not about to leave you, to "Shooting Star" via "Rollin' on" without forgetting all the tracks already mentioned above. And if the quartet has the good taste not to look like as a kind of Nickleback and it masters its subject, it still lacks that touch of madness, that kind of genius so that it can claim to be the new Led Zep or Lynyrd Skynyrd to which some would try to compare it. But let's not deny our pleasure and acknowledge the exemplary handling of this impeccable first draft all along, barely affected by a last, less remarkable part.

IN THIS MOMENT: A Star-Crossed Wasteland (2010)
METALCORE - "A Star-Crossed Wasteland" turns out to be a very good record, calibrated for the American market, but more personal than it sounds.
FREEGH: 001 (2011)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - "001" is music that speaks to the emotions. Freegh has managed here to reconcile the intelligence of the 70s productions with the accessibility of modern music.
